The revised Edmonton Symptom Assessment System Revised (ESAS-r)(1) replaces the ESAS (2). The Edmonton Symptom Assessment System (ESAS) is a valid and reliable assessment tool originally developed in 1991 by the Edmonton Regional Palliative Care Program (Alberta, Canada) to assist in the assessment of: pain, tiredness, nausea, depression, anxiety, drowsiness, appetite, well being, and shortness of breath.
